What is checked
Maintenance examines four groups. Hoist group: wire rope or chain discard criteria, brake air gap and lining, gearbox oil, hook and safety latch. Travel group: wheel wear, travel brake, gearbox, buffers.
Electrical: panel cleanliness and connection tightness, contactors, VFD cooling, limit switch and overload limiter function tests, controls. Rail line and structure: rail surface, fixing elements, welded and bolted connections.
What determines the interval
The same crane doesn't want the same maintenance schedule in two different facilities. Determining factors: number of daily cycles, average load ratio, number of shifts and environmental conditions (dust, heat, humidity, outdoor site).
Cranes that work intensively and in harsh environments need a shorter interim maintenance interval. Our inspection calendar tool does this calculation for you.
Inspection items
| Level | Who does it | Typical items |
|---|---|---|
| Daily | Operator | Brake test, emergency stop, visual rope/hook check, sound |
| Interim maintenance | Technical team | Discard criteria, brake adjustment, limit tests, oil, wheels |
| Annual periodic inspection | Authorized person/body | Examination, load test, report |
The interim maintenance interval is determined by duty class and environment; the manufacturer's instructions take precedence.
Technical terms
| Term | What it means |
|---|---|
| Interim maintenance | Scheduled, measurement-based maintenance carried out at set intervals outside the annual inspection. |
| Discard criterion | A measurable finding that requires an element to be taken out of service. |
| Air gap | The set clearance between the lining and disc in an electromagnetic brake. |
| Maintenance record | Written tracking of the work performed, date and parts changed. |
Frequently asked questions
Is a maintenance contract mandatory?
No, but planned maintenance both reduces downtime and prevents surprises before the periodic inspection. One-off maintenance service is also available without a contract.
Does maintenance replace the periodic inspection?
No. The periodic inspection is a separate examination and testing process required by regulation; it's carried out and reported by authorized persons.
How long is the crane down during maintenance?
It depends on scope; routine interim maintenance is usually short and can be scheduled outside shift hours.
