TroubleshootingFrom symptom to root cause.
The eight most common symptoms encountered on a crane; likely causes, a step-by-step diagnosis order, and what to do so the fault doesn't recur.
Symptoms
Crane Brake Not HoldingIf the load slips at the hook or the crane creeps down a little after stopping, the brake system is involved. This is the most critical fault.Crane Skews While TravellingIf the crane does not travel straight along the runway and drifts to one side, the cause is almost always the runway or the wheels.Variable Frequency Drive FaultingIf the VFD trips with a fault code and stops the crane, the code tells you which group the fault belongs to: current, voltage, temperature or communication.Wheel Flanges WearingFlange wear is not a fault in itself — it is a symptom: the crane is not tracking straight on the runway.Rope Spooling Unevenly on the DrumIf the rope does not sit in the grooves, piles up on itself or jumps while spooling, both the rope and the drum wear rapidly.Overload Limiter Tripping EarlyIf lifting cuts out below rated capacity, the accuracy of the measurement must be verified first — raising the setpoint is not a fix.Motor or Gearbox OverheatingOverheating is most often not the fault itself, but a sign that the system is being run above its rated duty.Radio Remote Control Not RespondingUsually the quickest fault to fix: battery, emergency stop, pairing or receiver power. Keeping a spare transmitter cuts the downtime to minutes.
