Rail line first
A new crane inherits every flaw of the existing rail line. That's why the first step of installation is measuring the line: span, elevation difference, straightness and rail slope.
If the measurement result is outside tolerance, alignment is carried out. Skipping this step means wheel wear and tracking problems start within the first months on the new crane as well — and a warranty dispute follows.
Installation and connection
The crane is placed on the rail line using suitable lifting equipment; end carriages and the bridge are connected, and the trolley and hoist group are installed.
The power supply line (busbar or festoon cable) is then run, panel connections are made, and phase sequence and grounding are checked. Limit switches, the overload limiter and emergency stop are each tested and verified.
Commissioning steps
| Handover item | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Operating and maintenance instructions | Maintenance intervals and correct use are written here |
| Rail line measurement report | Reference for comparison in future measurements |
| Load test record | Requested during periodic inspection and audits |
| Electrical schematic | Significantly shortens fault diagnosis |
| Spare parts list | Identification and lead time of critical parts |
| Nameplate information | Capacity, serial number, year of manufacture, duty class |
Technical terms
| Term | What it means |
|---|---|
| Commissioning | The adjustment, testing and handover process after installation. |
| Phase sequence | The order of phases in a three-phase supply; if wrong, motion directions are reversed. |
| Function test | Verifying one by one that the safety devices work. |
| Lockout–tagout | A method to prevent energy from being accidentally applied during maintenance. |
Frequently asked questions
Does production stop during installation?
The area where the crane will be installed must be cleared. The duration varies with scope; the work is usually scheduled during a production shutdown or outside shift hours.
How long does operator training take?
It depends on the crane's equipment; it covers control use, safety rules, daily checks and emergency behavior.
What if my rail line is out of tolerance?
A measurement report is issued and an alignment quote is provided. If installation proceeds on an out-of-tolerance line, the limits of responsibility must be clarified in writing.
