Three tiers of inspection

Inspection on a crane isn't a single event, it's a three-tier system. The daily check is the operator's job and takes minutes: does the brake hold, does the emergency stop work, is there anything visibly wrong with the rope, any unusual noise or vibration. This tier catches problems that appear during the day.

The interim maintenance tier is a measured check done by the technical team at set intervals: brake air gap, rope discard criteria, limit-switch tests, oil levels. This interval shortens for cranes that work intensively or in demanding environments.

The annual periodic inspection is the examination and load test required by regulation, carried out by an authorised person or body. This tier doesn't replace the other two — it sits on top of them.

Frequently asked questions

If I do interim maintenance, am I exempt from the annual inspection?

No. Interim maintenance is a maintenance activity; the annual periodic inspection is a separate examination and test process required by regulation. Neither replaces the other.

The deadline has passed — what should I do?

Book an inspection appointment without delay. Operating equipment past its deadline is a risk both for safety and for liability; in the event of an accident, the periodic-inspection report is the first document requested.

Can I use this list instead of an official report?

No. The lists here are for internal tracking. The official periodic-inspection report is issued by the authorised person or body who carries out the inspection.
