Crane pre-sizing
Enter your values and press calculate; the crane family, girder type and recommended duty class will appear here.
How to read the result
The tool tells you three things. Crane family — the right system for your operating environment: overhead travelling crane in an enclosed facility, gantry crane outdoors, jib crane for a single station, monorail for a fixed route. Girder type weighs tonnage, span, height and tempo together to say whether you need a single or double girder. Duty class is calculated from your daily cycle count and average load ratio.
The points to watch section below the result lists the risks that stand out in your inputs: a cost jump at wide spans, building statics at high tonnage, a need for a variable-frequency drive under intensive cycling. These are the questions worth asking when you request quotes.
Frequently asked questions
Can I order directly from this output?
No, this is a preliminary pointer. Before ordering, an on-site survey and a structural calculation are required. But using the output as a specification attachment when requesting quotes helps you get comparable quotes.
Is the information I enter stored anywhere?
No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser; no data is sent to a server. Values are only carried into the quote form if you click 'request a quote'.
I don't know my average load ratio — what should I enter?
Think about how much of the time on the hook is spent near capacity. If unsure, start at 50% and try one step up and one step down to see the difference.
The result says double girder but my budget fits single girder — what now?
First re-check the span and the required lifting height — in most projects these two drive the decision. For borderline projects, verify with a calculation rather than forcing a single girder.
