Site survey and measurement
The facility is visited; span is measured at several points along the runway, lifting height and free headroom are determined, and the condition of any existing rail line is assessed.
Production flow is also discussed during the same visit: how many lifts per day, average load, which points need to be reached. Duty class follows from this information.
Engineering
Structural calculation is carried out using the collected data. Girder cross-section, end carriage, wheel selection and hoist group are determined from this calculation; deflection and stress checks are performed.
One of the most important outputs of the calculation is the wheel load. These values are provided as input to the building's load-bearing structure; if a crane is being added to an existing building, it is verified that the structure can carry these loads.
Manufacturing stages
| Stage | Work performed |
|---|---|
| Cutting and preparation | Plate and profile cutting, weld-edge preparation |
| Girder fabrication | Box-section welding, cambering, weld inspection |
| End carriage and wheels | Wheel bearing installation, travel unit assembly, diagonal check |
| Trolley and hoist group | Assembly, wire rope/chain set, brake adjustment |
| Electrical | Panel manufacturing, VFD and protection devices, wiring |
| Surface | Blasting, primer and finish coat |
| Factory test | Motion, brake, limit and safety function tests |
Technical terms
| Term | What it means |
|---|---|
| Camber | The reverse deflection built into a girder during manufacturing that flattens out under load. |
| Deflection | The downward sag of a girder under load. |
| Wheel load | The load each wheel transfers to the rail and structure. |
| Structural calculation | The strength and fatigue calculation of the girder and load-bearing elements. |
Frequently asked questions
Can I send the measurements myself?
For a preliminary quote, yes. Before an order, an on-site measurement is standard practice — a difference of a few centimeters means a crane that doesn't sit properly on the rail after installation.
Who checks the building's structural capacity?
We provide the wheel loads; whether the building can carry these loads is assessed by a party familiar with the structural design. A separate free-standing rail structure is recommended if needed.
How long does manufacturing take?
It depends on capacity, span and equipment. The duration is stated in writing with the quote; the installation schedule is planned accordingly.
